The decision was made during the Thursday, June 20, Lee’s Summit City Council meeting inside City Hall. The agreements between the City and Google Fiber cover all aspects relating to the installation and operation of the fiber optic network in Lee’s Summit.

The City of Lee’s Summit is pleased that the community is excited about Google Fiber coming to Lee’s Summit. The City Council’s approval of the three agreements between the City and Google Fiber on June 20th was the first step in preparing the way for the ultra-high-speed Internet and TV services to come into our community. The next step is planning and engineering work that will need to be completed before laying Fiber and connecting to end users. The City will inform the public as soon as a timetable has been established for these steps via our website and social media.

We'd like to hear your thoughts about this announcement!

I just found this info. I will be so happy to have an alternative to Comcast. I do I keep up to date on progress?

Preparatory utility work began in mid-August, and installation of the Google Fiber network along major roadways should begin early this fall and in residential areas later this fall. A timeline for Google Fiber residential service availability is not yet available, but it is expected to start sometime in 2015.

Once the installation of the fiber network begins, residents can expect to see Google subcontractors working within the City’s right-of-way and utility easements. As is typical with underground utility work of this scale, digging could be required in your area. Residents should receive door-hangers from Google Fiber prior to construction activity beginning in their neighborhoods.

City staff and Google Fiber representatives have been meeting on a bi-weekly basis to discuss coordination efforts for this project. Project updates will be provided on this page as they become available. - See more at:

Will any/all of the LSR7 schools eventually be connected to Google Fiber? It appears Lee's Summit West and several other schools are not located in "fiberhoods".
